VFG Professional Development Day – 2 September 2022
The Victorian Flute Guild held its 2022 Professional Development Day on Friday 2 September from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Presbyterian Ladies’ College, Burwood. The event was led by Peter Bartels, an experienced flute pedagogue and author of Supercharge Your Flute Technique.
The day focused on the connection between flute playing and body mechanics, incorporating functional anatomy and somatic principles. Attendees engaged in three core sessions:
- Technique Through Balance: Exploring body alignment, flute positioning, and technical fluency
- Breath Is the Soul of the Flute: Investigating respiratory anatomy and relaxed breathing techniques
- Producing a Fabulous Sound: Developing embouchure and tone with a structured progression of exercises
Participants were encouraged to bring a flute, yoga mat, and wear comfortable clothing. The workshop was open to VIT-registered teachers or those with a Working With Children Check.
