Celebrating 50 Years of the Victorian Flute Guild – 1969 to 2019

In 2019, the Victorian Flute Guild proudly marked its 50th anniversary—a remarkable milestone in its mission to support, connect, and inspire flautists across Victoria.

Established in 1969 by Leslie Barklamb, the Guild has grown into a vibrant community of performers, teachers, students, and supporters, all united by a shared love of the flute. To honour five decades of musical excellence, education, and community, the Guild hosted a year of special events culminating in a spectacular 50th Anniversary Gala Concert at the South Melbourne Town Hall. The evening brought together world-renowned performers including Ian Clarke (UK), Wissam Boustany (UK/Lebanon), Matthias Ziegler (Switzerland), and leading Australian artists, alongside the VFG Massed Flute Ensemble.

Anniversary celebrations also included workshops, fundraisers, and performances by emerging talents and past scholarship winners—highlighting the Guild’s ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of flautists.

To everyone who has contributed to the Guild’s story over the past 50 years—thank you. Your passion and support have helped build a lasting legacy for flute music in Victoria.

Here’s to the next 50!
