On Wednesday 10 July 2019, the Victorian Flute Guild celebrated five decades of flute excellence with a spectacular 50th Anniversary Gala Concert at the Australian National Academy of Music, South Melbourne Town Hall.
The concert brought together an extraordinary line-up of performers from around the world, including:
- Ian Clarke – acclaimed UK flautist and composer
- Wissam Boustany – international soloist and conductor
- Andrew Macleod, Jessie Gu, Matthias Ziegler, Brock Imison, and Greg Lee – leading Australian and international artists
Audiences were treated to virtuosic performances, inspiring collaborations, and the debut of the VFG 50th Anniversary Massed Flute Ensemble, joined by the Victorian Flute Ensemble. The evening was compered by Alan Hardy, with contributions from Carolyn Grace, David Lempriére-Laughton, Leigh Harrold, and Alice Bennett.
With heartfelt reflections, breathtaking music, and a full house of supporters, the night was a joyous tribute to 50 years of community, artistry, and dedication to the flute.
