Victorian Flute Guild: Home

Message from President- Nariida Coleman Nariida Coleman, the President of the Victorian Flute Guild, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role on the Committee. A student of the late Leslie Barklamb, Nariida was the founding Secretary of the Victorian Flute Guild. She has been a member of the Committee several times, and was on the Committee of the First Australian Flute Convention, hosted by the VFG. Nariida has extensive experience as a teacher; her last full time position was at Genazzano FCJ College where she was Director of Woodwind for many years. She has a passion for ensemble work; she conducted the Victorian Flute Guild Ensemble for some years and one of her best memories was having almost 100 flutes perform at Hamer Hall. She has taken her ensembles on trips throughout Australia as well as a trip to America and England with the Billanook College and PLC Flute ensembles. Nariida has been an examiner for many years and still enjoys the interaction she experiences with students at all levels. She has adjudicated at many competitions for various groups and institutions. She attributes much of her success to her mentor, Leslie Barklamb. Nariida’s knowledge of the flute repertoire, her rapport with her students and understanding of their needs, hopes and problems will be of enormous benefit in her role as President. She has retired from full-time teaching and has diversified her talents to become a Marriage and Funeral Celebrant. She also works at the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre assisting clients find volunteer work. Her new passion is working on a crisis line as a telephone counsellor, a position she finds both rewarding, and sometimes a little overwhelming.
